Wind Power and Wildlife.

A question:

I don’t understand how people with an interest in Conservation and Wildlife can be in favor of on- or off-shore wind power.

The short answer is that climate change is a major threat to wildlife and all of our existing ecosystems, so it’s important to slow or stop climate change. And wind power does that by displacing fossil fuel use.

Basically, installing a megawatt of wind power does less damage to the environment than building a megawatt fossil fuel power plant. Especially if you think about supplying it with fossil fuel for the next 20 years. Gas or oil wells will need to be fracked and re-fracked during that 20 years, and that megawatt power plant will burn 14,000,000 gallons of oil over 20 years.
